Origin: Native to northern Iran, Caucausus Region

The oval to oblong leaves of the Persian Ironwood – a relative of Witch Hazel – emerge reddish purple in spring and retain some color through summer. Orange, red and yellow leaves offer great color in fall, and in winter, the bark of a mature tree adds interest as it exfoliates to show green, white or tan patches and it also has flowers that are known for being very inconspicuous. It can grow to 40 feet and is an excellent tree for urban use.
