Rhododendron prunifolium is one of the many native azaleas found in the sand hills region of southern Georgia and Alabama, as well as the Florida Panhandle. The plumleaf azalea likes part shade and acidic soil, and is often found growing along stream banks.It has very bright red flowers that emerge in late summer when most other forest plants have long since finished blooming. They can grow up to 20 feet, but most are from 6 to 10 feet.
